Thursday/Friday – Day 151/152
December 31, 2012
Thursday was snowing and thus I was inside much of the day, visiting various galleries and reading lots of books. Finally I was getting the holiday I needed! In the afternoon I went to see Les Miserables which by my reckoning was good. Just good. Not particularly great as many had hoped. I put this down to the musical character of the movie, which was a little repetitive and thus dull. Many of the actors spent the entire time speaking the songs with trembling lips and tearful eyes, which meant that not that much singing actually took place.
Friday was shorter than I would have liked, largely due to the early dinner and shabbat time of 4:30. Thus my day mostly consisted of going for a walk in the city then catching up for coffee with Irit Shacharai, one of my mentors from the Weizmann Institute, pursuing research at the Rockefeller Institute. After that it was back to Yoni and Rivki’s for dinner with the girls and then some peace to read!
Sunday/Monday – Day 129/130
December 6, 2012
Before I proceed with today’s post, I have to make a little advertisement for the campaign to save The Butterfly Club, the dearest performance venue to me in Melbourne. It’s a small cabaret outfit with retro style that supports upcoming actors and has kickstarted the careers of the likes of Sammy J and Tim Minchin. Take a look here and here to see what I’m on about, and, if you’re reading this from Melbourne, check out the place and if you like it, please help save it!
Sunday I woke up sick. No surprises there. With finals coming up though, there was no time to dawdle, it was straight to work! The majority of the day was spent split between my various subjects as they all had bits and pieces that needed doing. Probably the one I most enjoyed was starting my final project for my algorithms class.
Monday began another ramp up in load, as my various exams and homeworks drew closer. Nothing special here, just another day packed with work. However, in the evening PGC began the process for trialling directors for the upcoming spring show, with the club. Rehearsal was thus more lively than normal and we engaged in theatre sports and dance alongside our staple singing.
Following that was a usual choral society rehearsal, that ran, as usual, too late and as usual, left me a little drained. However I didn’t let it get to me as I had been graciously allotted by a Miss Stephanie Li, one half hour of her time, in which we were to play and sing through some of my sheet music. Half an hour quickly turned into an hour and a half and, were it not for work and sheer exhaustion, it likely would’ve turned into much longer.
Monday – Day 87
October 24, 2012
Today’s link is slightly scatalogical but is well worth reading for those who have ever wondered what happens when you flush a toilet from an airplane.
Monday wasn’t the most exciting of days, woke up really late and felt well rested for the first time in a while. My coughing has almost stopped and this has brightened my overall mood.
I’ve also been taking the free time as a chance to catch up on a good amount of work, particularly in the Ruby class and so much of my time today was spent on that and the Physics. After a few hours of work and a lunch and interview with Zack Costa.
I made it to Professor Mele’s office before the day was through and spent a while going through the problems with which I had been having trouble, that helped me out a lot.
The evening I played SupCom 2 for a while (giving myself a little break) and some piano before heading out with JHo and Paul (also from PGC) to go see Looper, staring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. My overall impression of the movie was that it was fun with fantastic concepts and design, however there were a number of glaring plot holes and at time it felt like it was overdoing the artsy thing in order to prop up its ‘real movie’ credentials. 7.5/10.
The rest of the evening was spent again with PGC members, watching the presidential debate in which Vanessa (our Canadian stage manager) and I complained about the focus on American exceptionalism in discussions of foreign policy. After a hug goodnight and a few more chips, it was off to sleep again for another day.
