Monday – Day 87
October 24, 2012
Today’s link is slightly scatalogical but is well worth reading for those who have ever wondered what happens when you flush a toilet from an airplane.
Monday wasn’t the most exciting of days, woke up really late and felt well rested for the first time in a while. My coughing has almost stopped and this has brightened my overall mood.
I’ve also been taking the free time as a chance to catch up on a good amount of work, particularly in the Ruby class and so much of my time today was spent on that and the Physics. After a few hours of work and a lunch and interview with Zack Costa.
I made it to Professor Mele’s office before the day was through and spent a while going through the problems with which I had been having trouble, that helped me out a lot.
The evening I played SupCom 2 for a while (giving myself a little break) and some piano before heading out with JHo and Paul (also from PGC) to go see Looper, staring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. My overall impression of the movie was that it was fun with fantastic concepts and design, however there were a number of glaring plot holes and at time it felt like it was overdoing the artsy thing in order to prop up its ‘real movie’ credentials. 7.5/10.
The rest of the evening was spent again with PGC members, watching the presidential debate in which Vanessa (our Canadian stage manager) and I complained about the focus on American exceptionalism in discussions of foreign policy. After a hug goodnight and a few more chips, it was off to sleep again for another day.
Sunday/Monday – Day 25/26
August 15, 2012
Today was spent again with friends. In the morning I walked again in the Jerusalem sun with Yumi, an Israeli girl who had been volunteering in education in Australia for the past year. Though she herself is a Jerusalemite, I still managed to surprise her with an ice-cream shop I knew for it’s authentic italian style and delicious flavours (Noya).
In the afternoon it was already back to Tel Aviv to spend the afternoon with my brother Adi. As a goodbye we decided to go out for dinner and a movie. Dinner was at ‘La Lasagne’ a kosher Italian place on Dizengof street that came highly recommended, followed by ‘Brave’ at the Rav Chen cinemas.
Prior to the commencement of the movie, there was a traditional Pixar short, this time in 3D! It was titled ‘La Luna’ and was one of the most wonderful and sweet pieces of film that I have seen in a long time. It was almost worth seeing the movie just for that.
Brave itself was a traditional Disney/Pixar film, and though there was nothing particularly special about it, there were enough moments to make you smile in delight. All but stiff curmudgeons and those of hard heart would be sure to enjoy it.
After the movie, we talked late into the night before finally, sleep took us.
Wednesday – Day 15
August 3, 2012
I have recently realized that one should pack more than three tshirts, two pairs of pants, sandals and a camera, when one is unsure for how long they will be away.
As a result, much of the morning was spent finding and arranging washing. The solution ended up being a trip to Adi’s apartment with mine and Sarah’s joint washing. After a few hours of waiting around our washing came out dripping, we decided to watch some of an (unnamed) movie in order to pass the time before collecting it.
The evening I spent with Ma’ayan Dekel, an old friend from Israel. Over sushi we discussed a great deal many things including the place of psychology in science and a number of philosophical concepts.
Though today was quieter, it was much appreciated amongst the hustle and bustle of a busy trip to Israel!
